Advanced Exfoliation Treatments and Benefits

  • MICRODERMABRASION

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin treatment that exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin cells, promoting a smoother, more youthful appearance. The procedure typically involves a handheld device that uses fine crystals or a diamond-tipped wand to gently buff away the top layer of skin. This treatment is painless and usually requires no downtime, making it a popular choice for those seeking skin rejuvenation.

    Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Improves Skin Texture: Regular treatments can lead to smoother skin by removing dead skin cells and stimulating cell turnover.

Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Helps diminish the appearance of fine lines, promoting a more youthful complexion.

Enhances Skin Tone: Can improve uneven skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation, resulting in a brighter complexion.

Clears Acne and Minimizes Scarring: Effective for treating mild acne and can help reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Minimizes Pore Size: Exfoliation helps unclog pores, making them appear smaller and reducing the likelihood of breakouts.

Boosts Radiance: By removing the dull, outer layer of skin, microdermabrasion can leave the skin looking fresh and revitalized.

Enhances Product Absorption: With the outer layer of dead skin removed, skincare products can penetrate better, maximizing their effectiveness.

Safe for All Skin Types: Microdermabrasion is suitable for most skin types and tones, making it a versatile treatment option.

No Downtime: The procedure typically requires no recovery time, allowing individuals to return to their normal activities immediately.

  • Dermaplane

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive skincare treatment that involves using a sterile surgical scalpel to gently exfoliate the outermost layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair (often referred to as "peach fuzz") from the face. The procedure is typically performed by a trained skincare professional and takes about 30 to 60 minutes. It leaves the skin feeling smooth and looking radiant.

    Benefits of Dermaplaning

Exfoliation: Removes dead skin cells, promoting a smoother and brighter complexion.

Improved Product Absorption: With the removal of dead skin and hair, skincare products can penetrate more effectively, enhancing their benefits.

Smoother Skin Texture: Leaves the skin feeling soft and silky, improving overall texture.

Reduces the Appearance of Fine Lines: Regular treatments can help diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Brightens Skin Tone: Enhances radiance and luminosity by removing dull, dead skin.

Prevents Acne and Breakouts: By removing dead skin cells and buildup, dermaplaning can help prevent clogged pores, which may lead to acne.

Safe for All Skin Types: Suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin, as it does not involve harsh chemicals.

Instant Results: Many people notice immediate improvements in their skin’s appearance right after the treatment.

Minimal Downtime: The procedure typically requires no recovery time, allowing individuals to return to their normal activities right away.

  • CHEMICAL PEEL

A chemical peel is a skincare treatment that involves applying a chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate and remove the outer layers. This procedure can vary in depth—from superficial to deep—depending on the type of chemical used and the desired results. Common agents used in chemical peels include alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and trichloroacetic acid (TCA).

    Types of Chemical Peels:

Superficial Peels: Use mild acids to gently exfoliate the outer layer of skin, improving texture and tone. Suitable for all skin types.

Medium Peels: Penetrate deeper to target issues like wrinkles and uneven pigmentation. Usually involve TCA.

Deep Peels: Use stronger acids to treat deeper skin issues, often requiring more downtime. They are typically performed under medical supervision.

    Benefits of Chemical Peels

Improves Skin Texture: Helps to smooth out rough or uneven skin surfaces, making the skin feel softer and more refined.

Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Stimulates collagen production, which can diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Enhances Skin Tone: Can lighten hyperpigmentation, sunspots, and melasma, leading to a more uniform skin tone.

Clears Acne and Reduces Scarring: Effective for treating acne and can help reduce the appearance of acne scars by promoting skin renewal.

Minimizes Pore Appearance: Helps to unclog pores and reduce their visibility, leading to a clearer complexion.

Boosts Radiance: Removes dead skin cells, revealing fresher, more radiant skin beneath.

Stimulates Collagen Production: Encourages the body’s natural healing processes, resulting in firmer, more youthful skin.

Customizable Treatment: Can be tailored to individual skin types and concerns, making it suitable for a wide range of skin issues.

Advanced Exfoliation Treatments and Benefits

  • wet microdermabrasion/ hydrafacial

    Wet Microdermabrasion / HydraFacial Description

Wet microdermabrasion, often associated with HydraFacial, is an advanced skincare treatment that combines exfoliation, extraction, and hydration in one procedure. Unlike traditional microdermabrasion, which uses crystals or a diamond-tipped wand, wet microdermabrasion employs a specialized device that infuses the skin with hydrating serums while simultaneously exfoliating the outer layer of dead skin. This method provides a more gentle and soothing experience, making it suitable for a wider range of skin types.

Benefits of Wet Microdermabrasion / HydraFacial

Deep Cleansing: Effectively cleanses the skin by removing impurities, dead skin cells, and excess oil.

Hydration: Infuses the skin with nourishing serums during the treatment, leaving it deeply hydrated and revitalized.

Exfoliation: Gently exfoliates the skin, promoting cell turnover and revealing a smoother, brighter complexion.

Reduced Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles through regular treatments.

Minimized Pore Size: Unclogs and minimizes the appearance of pores, helping to prevent breakouts and improve skin texture.

Improved Skin Tone and Texture: Enhances overall skin tone and texture, leading to a more even and radiant complexion.

Customized Treatments: HydraFacial can be tailored to address specific skin concerns, such as acne, pigmentation, or signs of aging.

Instant Results: Many patients notice immediate improvements in their skin’s appearance, making it a popular choice before special events.

Non-Invasive with No Downtime: The procedure is painless, with little to no downtime, allowing individuals to resume normal activities immediately.

Suitable for All Skin Types: Safe for sensitive skin and various skin conditions, including acne-prone and aging skin.

  • microneedling with procell

Microneedling with Procell is a minimally invasive skin treatment that involves using a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the body’s natural healing response, promoting collagen and elastin production. Procell is a specific microneedling system that combines this technique with advanced growth factor serums derived from stem cells, enhancing the treatment's effectiveness.

    Benefits of Microneedling with Procell

Stimulates Collagen Production: The micro-injuries trigger the skin’s healing process, leading to increased collagen and elastin production, which helps improve skin elasticity and firmness.

Improves Skin Texture and Tone: Reduces the appearance of rough skin, large pores, and uneven texture, resulting in smoother, more radiant skin.

Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, contributing to a more youthful appearance.

Minimizes Scarring: Effective for reducing the visibility of acne scars and other types of scars through skin regeneration.

Enhances Product Absorption: The micro-channels created during treatment allow for better absorption of topical products, especially the growth factor serums used in Procell treatments.

Customizable Treatment: The Procell system can be tailored to address specific skin concerns, making it suitable for various skin types and conditions.

Non-Surgical with Minimal Downtime: While some redness and sensitivity may occur post-treatment, recovery time is typically short, allowing for a quick return to daily activities.

Safe for All Skin Types: Procell microneedling is suitable for various skin tones and types, including sensitive skin.

Long-Lasting Results: With a proper skincare routine and regular treatments, results can last for several months, as the skin continues to rejuvenate.

Improves Overall Skin Health: Beyond cosmetic improvements, microneedling can enhance the overall health of the skin, promoting a balanced and revitalized appearance.

STUDENT-TEACHER RATIO

Our dedication to our students and focus on detailed, hands-on training means we keep our student-to-teacher ratio low to ensure the best possible skill development and supervision.

Rather than the requirement of one teacher to 30 students, we prefer small class sizes and personalized attention for our students. Our ratio is one teacher for every 4 students for our advanced exfoliation classes.

Where can I use my new certification after I graduate?

An actively licensed cosmetologist or esthetician who is licensed by endorsement and who has completed chemical resurfacing exfoliation training at a substantially equivalent program to that of DPOS and CCCS, as determined by the Director, may meet the training requirements necessary to perform chemical resurfacing exfoliation.

Please be sure to check with the agencies about rules in your state for you to be able to practice once completing our training.  State regulations are usually governed by the state licensing agency or the state medical board.

advanced exfoliation treatment after care

    • Avoid touching your face

Don't pick, peel, or rub your skin for a few days after the treatment. You can keep your hair tied up to prevent it from touching your face.

    • Protect from the sun

Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least two weeks after the treatment. After that, use a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 44.

    • Moisturize

Use a non-irritating, water-based moisturizer regularly to help your skin recover. Avoid over-moisturizing, which can prevent the damaged skin from flaking properly.

    • Avoid certain products

Avoid products containing retinol and other peeling agents until your skin has finished desquamating.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise

Strenuous exercise can cause inflammation, so you should avoid it for 2–3 days after the treatment.

    • Avoid high temperatures

Avoid saunas and hot exercise classes, which can encourage inflammation.

    • Don't have another treatment too soon

Give your skin time to heal and repair before getting another treatment, which should be at least 2–3 weeks after the chemical peel.

  • After your treatment, follow a simple skincare routine.

For two weeks following your treatment, stick to a simple skincare routine. That means using a gentle cleanser, hydrating serum or face oil, and sunscreen every day. Avoid any other treatments or products that could irritate the skin.

    Use SPF

It’s important to use sunscreen after dermaplaning since your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s harmful rays. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and apply it every day, even if you’re just spending time indoors.

Do not wear any makeup for 24 hours.

You’ll want to avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning. This will give your skin time to heal and recover from the treatment.

    Avoid touching your face.

Touching your face can introduce bacteria to the skin and cause irritation. So, it’s best to avoid touching your face as much as possible after dermaplaning.

    Avoid using harsh skincare products.

Harsh skincare products, such as retinoids or glycolic acids, can irritate the skin after dermaplaning. If you use these products, wait at least a day or two before using them again after your treatment.

    Avoid chlorine and swimming pools.

Chlorinated water can dry out and irritate the skin. So, it’s best to avoid swimming in pools or other bodies of chlorinated water for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning. You can shower normally after your treatment.

Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated

Drinking plenty of water helps to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. This is especially important after dermaplaning since your skin will be more prone to dryness.

Get plenty of rest and relaxation.

Taking some time to relax and de-stress can do wonders for your skin. Consider taking a relaxing bath or reading a good book to help your skin recover from dermaplaning.

What You Should NOT DO After Dermaplaning

Don’t use retinol or glycolic acid.

You’ll want to avoid using retinol or glycolic acid for at least a week after dermaplaning. These ingredients can cause irritation and dryness, which isn’t ideal for sensitive skin.

Don’t expose your skin to the sun.

It’s important to avoid direct sun exposure after dermaplaning. This can irritate the skin and cause redness and swelling. If you must be in the sun, make sure to wear sunscreen with a high SPF.

Don’t use hot water on your face.

Hot water can strip the natural oils from your skin, leaving it feeling dry and irritated. So, avoid using hot water when cleansing your face or taking a shower. Steam rooms or saunas should also be avoided for at least a day or two after dermaplaning.

Don’t use harsh or abrasive cleansers.

Harsh or abrasive cleansers can irritate the skin and cause redness and swelling. Stick to gentle cleansers after dermaplaning to help keep your skin healthy and happy.

Don’t use a washcloth or scrub brush on your face.

Washcloths and scrub brushes can be too harsh for the skin after dermaplaning. Stick to using your hands when cleansing your face to avoid any irritation.

Don’t pick or scratch your face.

Picking or scratching your face can damage the skin and lead to infection. So, it’s important to resist the urge to pick or scratch at any dryness, redness, or irritation you may experience after dermaplaning.

Don’t book other facial treatments for two weeks.

Other facial treatments, such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion, can irritate the skin after dermaplaning. So, it’s best to wait at least two weeks before booking any other facial treatments.

Do not engage in any strenuous physical activity.

Strenuous physical activity can cause excessive sweating, which can lead to irritation and breakouts. So, it’s best to avoid working out or engaging in any other strenuous activity or exercise for at least 24 hours after dermaplaning.

    • Avoid any exfoliation to the area for 48 hours post-treatment.

    • To keep the area clean, avoid heat sources, including hot showers, saunas, and cardio workouts that may produce sweat for 24 hours.

    • You may wash your face the following morning using the products recommended by your It’s A Secret Service Professional.

    • Please discuss continuing use of your regular regimen post-treatment.

    • Do not use topical Retin-A for 2 days following treatment.

    • Avoid unprotected sun exposure and/or use of tanning beds for at least 3 days post-treatment.

    • Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily for 3-5 days post-treatment.

    • Makeup may be applied the day after treatment.

    • Avoid washing your face: Don't wash your face for at least 72 hours after microneedling. After that, you can gently wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser.

    • Apply sunscreen: Wear sunscreen every day to protect your skin from UV rays and promote healing.

    • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help your skin repair faster. You can also reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake to help your skin heal.

    • Use prescribed creams: Use any topical creams your doctor prescribes after your procedure.

    • Avoid makeup: Don't apply makeup for at least 24 hours after microneedling.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise: Don't swim, exercise strenuously, or use saunas for the first 3 days after microneedling.

    • Use collagen-stimulating peptides: Peptides and growth factors can help your skin heal faster and increase collagen production.

After microneedling, your skin may look and feel like it has a mild sunburn. This is because the procedure creates micro-injuries that make your skin more sensitive and vulnerable to sun damage.
